Here are the texts we’ll be reading this coming Sunday, the 22nd of June. Have a look ahead of time and listen for where they take you:
Jeremiah 20:7-13
Psalm 69:7-10 [11-15] (that means that vv. 11-15 are optional) 16-18. Antiphonal verse is Ps 69:16
Romans 6:1b-11
Matthew 10:24-39
Initial looks remind me of how captivated I continue to be by Matthew’s gospel account, and how intimidating I find the experience of preaching on it to be. Perhaps this might be a good place to put the question to you folks: do you prefer the idea of preaching always centering on the passage from the gospels, or would you welcome sermons that also take a direction from the other readings? And if you would like to hear sermons based on the other texts read aloud on Sunday, how would we handle the reading of them? Would we read the gospel lesson with the other two, and then have the preacher read the passage aloud that the sermon comes from?
Hope you will enjoy checking in to the blog often, and that you’ll post some responses to what you read here. We’ll also be seeking some spots in cyberspace to hold some internet discussion forums on a variety of topics related (directly or indirectly) to our lives and work together. For now, I think I’d like to solicit advice from all of you about what to do when you find that you can’t fall asleep… even though you’re exhausted. It’s been an unsolvable puzzle for me since early childhood. Nights like this one happen a lot less frequently, thanks to the miracle of aging combined with the miracle of parenthood. But I’ve never been a good sleeper… except when I need to get up in the morning!

My presonal preference on sermens is… I like if all the text is used not just the gospel, and I kinda like when the passage is read right at the begining of the sermen but I don’t think we’ve ever really done it that way. Oh and some sleeping tips would be sitting in on a Sunday morning sermen, ha ha kidding.
And I hope people accually use this blog!!!
Good luck trying to do that
